Bio

Many eras ago, in what may have been the Nara period of the eighth century - twin kitsune entered into this world from the world beyond: Inari and Maki. Though not identical, their bond was strong - and so, too, were they. Maki was gifted with a connection to the anima and ley energies of the world - and Inari instead embodied the avatar of her namesake, a veritable demigod.

Of the twins, Maki maintained an adherence to tradition, possessing extensive knowledge and expertise in matters of the heavens and earth - along with all that lingered between and beyond. Through sorcerous dance and performance, Maki wove potent magics and powerful wards, serving to defend the sacred peaks.

Inari, however, found lackadaisical interest in such matters as Maki's forte - and possessed a burning curiosity for the myriad ways in which the world slowly but surely changed. Though she lacked in sorcery, Inari was well-honed in martial prowess, far beyond her kin - with formidable strength, speed and cunning.

Nevertheless, together they served as wardens. Their charge: the sanctity and safekeeping of sacred peaks serving as gateways between the realms of mortal Earth and what lies across the threshold to others, above and below.

Yokai, yaoguai, cryptids - though different cultures derived their own terms for such beings, all shared the threads of the supernatural, otherworldly, spirited or 'monstrous' entities and beings - and it was the duty of the wardens and their brethren to maintain order.

As was the wont of such beings and their brethren, seclusion and elusiveness from the likes of mortal humankind was a necessary restraint - for human curiosity was a formidable force, as too was the desire for knowledge - and for some, power.

Myth and folklore convey those scattered glimpses of mortals and the world beyond, but as culture, society and technology soared to greater heights and broader reach, the old ways and beliefs began to subside.

Despite this, the wardens and their charge remained, for there were many such peaks and mountaintops, summits and valleys - and all manner of beings from beyond were ever-eager to explore the realms of mortal Earth, always finding new avenues of ingress.

Though the wardens of the peak had found support among gatherings of mortal adherents - monks, mystics, spiritualists and more - those numbers had dwindled, as fewer and fewer took up the mantle of their forebears generation by generation. Largely oblivious to such things, the contemporary world of man had come far from the trappings of magic and the occult, as little as most realized or believed.

However, 'modern' armaments and protective measures lacked in efficacy against beings from the world beyond, and paled in comparison to those forgotten rites, runes and incantations. Not all were oblivious to this, however - nor the threats most of mankind were wholly unaware of - and one such organization formed the Otherworldly Threat Tactical Response, or O.T.T.R.

It was an inevitability that O.T.T.R. and the Containment Corps would cross paths with the wardens of the peak - but while at first tensions clashed, a common ground was found in the shared desire to safeguard the mortal realms of Earth from threats beyond (and, as it happens, to also safeguard the world beyond from the likes of mortal man.)

A mutual pact was formed, in part because the wardens of the peak already possessed the means and presence to oversee regions where O.T.T.R. and the Containment Corps. had limited establishment and reach relative to other nations.

Maki remained devoted to historied tenets - but in O.T.T.R. Inari was eager to seize the opportunity to embrace a more advanced and 'modern' approach to combat. Armed and equipped with a complimentary blend of ancient relics and adapting cutting-edge advances in armor, Inari has sought to bridge the gap between the ways old and new... at least, as what could be accomplished without such 'trifles' as firearms.
