Bio

Kaneda Takeshi was born to a family tracing its lineage back through the Sengoku era and raised alongside his younger brother, Daisuke, and his younger sister, Chie, under rigorous tradition. Takeshi's father, Noboru, was a strict disciplinarian - and adamant in ingraining he and his brother with the tenets of the Bushido code.

Though the brothers did not know it at the time, Noboru was one of the last remnants of a secretive order dedicated to contending with dangerous yurei and yokai. Despite this, Noboru impressed upon them both the way of the blade and a great many rites and rituals for matters of the supernatural.

Takeshi, however, rejected such teachings as antiquated superstition, and upon growing of age separated from his family to pursue a far more modern and contemporary martial pursuit: enlisting with Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force (or JGSDF,) where he excelled until ultimately being recruited into the Special Forces Group.

Though he was not without his own proven merit, unbeknownst to Takeshi his superiors shared connections with his father and grandfather, selecting him in part for a division meant to handle less conventional operations.

Fate would find Takeshi soon enough - and while deployed on a mission in the Aokigahara Forest in pursuit of an alleged terrorist cell, his squad encountered an inhuman being who scarcely acknowledged heavy gunfire - a true demon, tearing through his unit with wanton carnage.

Takeshi was grievously wounded in the encounter in what seemed a mortal blow - but as his consciousness began to wane, a voice called out to him from the mists beyond and offered a bargain: take up the mantle of his family's due and be given a chance anew.

When he accepted, Takeshi's wounds began to mend - and Takeshi found himself wielding a rite-etched blade as an eerie familiarity flooded through him. In a frenzied retribution, he overwhelmed the demon, sealing it away with that phenomenal blade - and only then realizing the truth.

The Kaneda line carried a debt across generations for which no amount of money would suffice - and that in his stead as eldest heir, Daisuke had inherited the rite-etched blade in Takeshi's absence - and with it, an accursed duty: to pursue evil spirits, sorcerers and their ilk to quench a thirst for their energy, funneled to an entity from a world beyond.

Daisuke had perished in Takeshi's absence - and was himself consumed by that ravenous debt. Now, he would need to carry on that thankless work, aided by an edge capable of cutting through nearly anything - and soon coming to know and understand far more among the beings and powers beyond the awareness of most of the populace.
