Bio
In life, Lao Feng was a minor magistrate in a rural province during the waning years of the Qing Dynasty - a scholar and official known for being incorruptible. A man of deep principle an devotion to the people he served, Lao Feng was unafraid to expose rot beneath the foundations of bureaucracy.
Though Lao Feng was liked by many among the communities he served, such honesty and integrity were not well-received by all - making enemies for the man among the shadows. The prospects of the young Lao Feng advancing as an official for years to come posed a particular obstacle for a powerful noble involved in all manner of ill trades.
Thus, a plot was hatched and orchestrated to frame Lao Feng for treasonous acts and hidden corruption. With his judgement overseen and steeped with bribery and favors, Lao Feng's sentence was swift and brutal in an unforgivable decree: shackled in iron and laden with chains, he was entombed alive within an unmarked crypt, with all record of his presence stricken - and a seal affixed to ensure he would never trouble his enemies again.
It was there Lao Feng perished, destined to be forgotten - but an unjust demise made for an unquiet spirit.
With the judgement, however flawed, that Lao Feng had been rendered - his spirit entered Diyu, the realm of the dead - and there navigated the misty reaches of the world beyond, a labyrinth overlaid in an echo mirroring the world of the living. Lao Feng traversed the Ten Courts of Hell, confronted by the Ten Yama Kings, each in judgement of his life and deeds.
Trial by trial, Lao Feng endured and overcame - and with each, his tenacity and spirit grew stronger, so much so that in the world of the living, his mortal remains gathered qi to a staggering degree. By the end of his journey, Lao Feng had won over the courts of the world beyond - and returned again to the world of the living as a powerful jiangshi.
Now endowed with a new charge of inviolable justice for the unjust. What had been his shackled burden became instead the instrument of Lao Feng's Judgement - and in wielding the enormous ball and chain, he would deliver unto villains that which they were due.
The very same seals meant to lock away Lao Feng allowed for passing on a portion of his power to others found to be judged, and through the penitence of pain he persevered. When Lao Feng's work was done, he rested anew, only to rouse again more than a century later, disturbed by battle twixt the Wardens of the Peak and the wicked Khazanax.
In Lao Feng the Wardens found an unexpected ally, and a much needed edge in routing Khazanax's immortal legions. However, the world which greeted now Lao Feng was far removed from his familiar homeland - his original enemies long-since passed generations ago.
Finding common kinship and calling with the Wardens, Lao Feng elected to join their ranks - for this new world held no shortage of villains who, themselves, were in need of Judgement.
