Bio
In the aftermath of Earth's first confrontation with an eldritch incursion from beyond the void, public awareness of the supernatural, sorcerous and 'super-powered' individuals could no longer be suppressed. Among the myriad creatures and beings to arrive or emerge were remnants of the Sylvantii, denizens of a once-inhabitable Earth-like world. Where Earth's survivors adapted socially and technologically, the Sylvantii adapted biologically — and could not stop.
Sylvantii are humanoids whose origins track back to carnivorous ambush predators, rather than persistence-hunting primate ancestors of humans; theirs is a species for whom evolution favored survival over restraint, possessing adaptability and a formidable metabolism, boasting phenomenal regenerative properties. Able to endure and recover from trauma that would kill most beings, the Sylvantii adapt: through strength, resilience and instinct honed and reinforced time and time again. This same adaptability afforded a scattered few to escape the collapse of their own world as it was consumed by the void.
For Kai-Jhi, this adaptation expresses itself most prominently through kinetic impact, both dealt and endured. Where some Sylvantii would fear what repeated survival might erase, she pursues it as an exhilarating source of demonstrating just how much she has managed to grow. Each foe against which she can test her limits, Kai'Jhi grows stronger - and further removed from the individual she once was before it all began.
While many of her brethren had developed some measure of 'sorcerous' power, Kai-Jhi struggled to express such, until being introduced to a breakthrough: with the essence of particularly potent foes, she adopted etching ink imbued with that essence on the canvas of her form. In this, she was able to exceed prior limits, with the minor quibble of inheriting additional 'passengers' observing from within. Foremost among them: the cunning Seeker and ferocious Huntress.
When ruin came to her home-world, Kai-Jhi was among the survivors finding themselves displaced to other worlds for refuge at the behest of the grand Sylvantii sorceress known as Whisper. Fate and focus delivered her to an inhabitable world called Earth.
Kai-Jhi found herself in the back-alleys of a dark and sprawling metropolis upon her arrival on this world, and there she encountered humans for the first time - and hostile ones, at that: muscle of the syndicate. However, the members of this so-called 'syndicate' were scarcely a challenge and left her wanting; so too were uniformed humans of the 'D.F.P.D.' with more of the irritating weaponry the others had carried.
Beginning to feel despondence at the prospect that this was a world in which she could no longer satisfy her drive, Kai-Jhi was confronted by far more interesting foes: a human who transformed into a hulking, ferocious wolf, a shrouded being who maneuvered with impressive cunning among the shadows, and a human whose brawling prowess belied her form, making her a much more viable sparring partner.
These opponents lasted much longer before their defeat, the fourth among their number having seemingly been rendered unconscious during the melee shortly after her arrival. At the encouragement of the Huntress, Kai-Jhi woke that sleeping being - and with a single blow was cast crashing through several walls. A man awaited her there, his visage unnerving: he proposed the promise of greater opportunities to test her prowess, were she to count herself among their number for the trials ahead.
Naturally, against the wisdom of the Seeker, Kai-Jhi attempted to crush him, but his form proved too elusive and intangible. Begrudgingly, she agreed, if simply for the Huntress noting the prospect of sparring with the formidable sleeper again. In so doing, she came to be a member of the Twilight Vigil, bestowed the moniker of 'Punchline' by an enthusiastic and insistent Jackdaw.
