Bio

Shezzick had the misfortune to be born to a warren on a dying world, long after the ages of prosperity, strife and everything in between had come to an end. Like most of his kin, he grew and matured quickly out of evolutionary necessity - but he'd had the good fortune, at least, to be gifted with a brilliant and clever mind. With a knack for puzzling out inoperable relics, Shezzick was granted a better station than most.

In the ruins of the old world, the pinnacle of old technologies lay destroyed and decommissioned in plentiful junk heaped high as mountains - and while others plied and plotted for options under the Vermlock regime, Shezzick buried himself among the remnants of a civilization of hominids (whose depictions were rather hideously furless) and tinkered.

Immersed in scrap, Shezzick managed to improvise and adapt with all manner of mechanical leftovers in order to create functional tools - as well as arsenal. It was the latter for which his kin focused his labors, for wicked beings and their machines sought out the myriad warrens in ceaseless hostilities. Historically, the sorcerous power of the Vermlocks had proved more than sufficient to contend with any threats the warrens faced - but advancements among the hostile machines proved more and more well-adapted for overcoming such power.

Resources of the sort one needed to survive were dwindling and scarce, for so many of Shezzick's kind required a great deal of food, water and other basic necessities like access to derelict media. Politicking had not been to his interest, but Shezzick was nevertheless aware of the heated disputes between the traditionalist high council regime and the radical ideas of the revolutionary Kazz-Jhak Maz - the self-proclaimed "Vermlock Supreme."

With many among the warrens faced with dire futures seemingly without recourse, the Vermlock Supreme swayed many to support a gambit: through sorcerous energies, he proclaimed that he could open the way to a new world of rich and plenty, free from the menace of the machines and saved from the certain doom of famine beneath sunless skies.

Though the stated intent was to establish a safe foothold in the other world and later bring the remainder of the warrens through - Shezzick was skeptical of Vermlock Supreme's magnanimous motives, having seen the cold, calculated callousness the man as capable of. As peril peaked with a redoubled attack of the machines, however, a grand portal was opened through which a number of Shezzick's kin - many of them loyalists to the Vermlock Supreme, fled. So, too, did Shezzick.

Beyond, this 'new' world was, true to the word of Vermlock Supreme, far less ruinous and far more plentiful - but what had not been shared was that this world was already populated by hominids with a remarkably canny resemblance to the depicted hideous furless beings Shezzick had seen in ancient media. The reality of the situation became apparent: this -was- the world whence Shezzick had come, but far, far in its past before its terrible collapse!

That was his working theory, at least.

Vermlock Supreme's decree was that the inherent superiority of his kin (not the least of which included luxurious fur and sorcerous power) meant that the hominids of this world should be subjugated for the safety and betterment of his kind. However, Despite traversing the portal, the Vermlocks were pursued by one of the terrible machines - deemed the 'Hexterminator', it tirelessly sought to eradicate Vermlock Supreme's accompaniment in this world.

Shezzick had no desire to visit such a fate upon the beings of this world - and though he was not alone in this sentiment, most who had been brought in the initial portal foray were loyalists and adherents to Vermlock Supreme's philosophies. So, too, did Shezzick realize that the fate of his people depended on securing a place for them in this world - and the Hexterminator would make this impossible.

While Shezzick had been disadvantaged in his lack of sorcerous potential (which was to say, it was completely absent in the first place) - hope was not lost. Near to the sprawling and unfamiliar metropolis of Duskveil Falls, Shezzick discovered a vast junkyard with the remnants of what would later be realized to include the inventions of villains. More importantly, however, was that the wealth of parts and components therein were familiar to him from the world he'd come from - and in far better working order and condition!

It was from this lair that Shezzick would adopt the moniker Scrat - or Scrap Rat - and set about creating the tools and arsenal necessary to combat the Hexterminator and other agents of ill-intent. Scrat was aided by having brought a piece of his world's technology, a sophisticated weapon capable of generating potent electrical currents he deemed a 'Thug Zapper' - but from the wealth of components and scrap available to him in this world he could make so much more.

Maybe, just maybe, he could carve a better future for his kind than was offered by the Vermlock Supreme.
