Prepared By: Stacey Cunningham

Incident: Wild animal attacks on local hunters, EMT and responding officers.

Detail of Event: EMT medical response requested after hunting party attacked by local wildlife, sustaining multiple bite and claw wounds. EMT requested animal control, escalated to request for police backup.

Officers Childre, Kane, Brown and Mason dispatched to residence of Beau Fontaine. Upon arriving at location, EMT found missing. Sgt. Kane discovered two hunters identified as Garrett Smith and Larry Baker. Both individuals showed signs of attack - torn clothing and blood, but no sign of injury.

Officer Mason began to question Smith and Baker about the incident. Officer brown reported discovery of trail suggesting signs of struggles and EMT uniforms. Radioed for backup and additional medical response approx. 4:12 PM. Officers Kane and Mason pursued trail, locating missing EMT identified as Renee Hall in state of confusion and shock.

Approx. 4:34 PM Officers Miller and Johnson arrived to help establish perimeter and join search and rescue efforts. An unidentified Caucasian male was spotted wandering the marsh in state of undress and apparent delirium. On approach by Officer Miller, suspect became belligerent and hostile, attacking Miller.

Officer Johnson attempted to taser the suspect with no effect. Officer Brown asserted several times that lethal force would be used, when Officer Miller sustained injury, Officers Brown and Baker used service weapons, shooting suspect approx six times.

At estimated 4:40 PM Officer Mason alerted fellow officers to sighting a "very large dog or wolf" approaching aggressively before being attacked. Officer Childre described "monstrous" animal on hind legs 7 - 8 feet tall, killing Officer Mason "instantly."

Responding officers fired service weapons indeterminate number of times with little apparent effect on the animal. Officer Childre indicated that he and Officer Kane fled the scene by way of police cruiser. Current whereabouts and status of Officers Brown, Miller and Johnson, as well as EMT personnel are unknown.

Escalated tactical response is pending, but surrounding terrain of location substantially hinders approach.
